What Is Blog Editing?

Believe it or not, writing a blog post is only half the job. I bet that when most bloggers started blogging they had no idea how many other skills they were going to have to learn in order to get their blog read, or noticed. One of those skills is blog editing.
Editing a blog post is the one ‘chore’ of blogging that most bloggers hate. The main reason for this is because it is difficult to edit your own work. To reread your own words over and over again, trying to make it perfect, is not easy. It can be likened to situations such as when teachers struggle to teach their own children, or psychiatrists seek out advice from someone else, and why Doctors go to other Doctors. To be able to check yourself and your own work is just not easy and quite often it’s better to get someone else to do it. The phrase “A fresh pair of eyes” comes to mind, but obviously it’s much more than that.
What Blog Editing Is Not
There are many misconceptions when it comes to the idea of blog editing. Most people would assume that by hiring an editor to edit your carefully crafted work, they will end up taking all your own personality out of it, and your work will end up looking and feeling like a robot wrote it.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. Blog editing is not about making your unique creative words ‘vanilla’. It is also not about someone who likes using big fancy words rewording all your words and removing your unique voice! If that is what is happening, your blog editor is not doing their job.
The one thing no blogger or writer likes to see, after they have hit ‘publish’ is an error. A typo, a spelling mistake, or horror of all horrors, a grammatically incorrect phrase.
It happens to all of us. And yes, everyone hates the “Grammar Nazi” who points it out when it’s too late. However, the reality is that these types of errors do interrupt the reading flow.
Well then, what is Blog Editing
Blog editing is a combination of editing your blog posts so that they are grammatically correct, free from those pesky typos, and that your spelling is correct. Unless of course you are spelling it that way on purpose.
Blog editing is about keeping your blogger voice whilst ensuring that the reader will be able to understand what it is you are trying to say. Many creative people write as they talk, and the message can often get lost in translation. Whilst the language in a blog post is a lot less strict than it would be in a book, or thesis or manuscript, it is still necessary to make sure that it is right.
Whether your blog is a mommy blog where you talk about how much you love your kids, or it is a blog attached to your company’s website., it’s still important for your blog post to be as good and professional as it can possibly be.
How Can I Help You?
I am a blog editor. I have discovered that I am quite good at editing other people’s blog posts, pages and websites. I like to get to know my clients because that way I can interpret the message that they are trying to convey and make it readable for their audience.
Please, don’t just take my word for it.
I asked a few of my clients for a quote on how my service as their blog editor helps them to be better bloggers.
Muppie Lounge & Mom Just Saying
I edit Marishka’s posts both on Muppie Lounge and on her other blog, Mom Just Saying. Marishka’s first language is Afrikaans, so most of the editing I do for her is checking the grammar and spelling. Marishka is an amazing client to have.
Laetitia from Poppet Patch
Carly’s editing skills add incredible value to my blog. I write from my heart and my content often contains medical research matter. Carly is always able to interpret my message properly and remain true to my voice. At times we approach projects as work in progress to ensure that we are always happy with the outcome.
Chanene from Tonic & Tiaras
What I loved about working with Carly was that she was forthcoming and fully engaged in trying to get the best out of my blog, and with that, she challenged me and made me take ownership of my own media. One could say she is your social media therapist.
Thank you Carly. I cannot recommend the services of Blue Media Edit enough.
The Green Lights
My experience in blogging has given me a unique insight into the way that blogs work. I understand the impact that they have on their audience. I also understand what the audience or readership is looking for when they land on that blog post.
Another thing that I can help you with, is going green! No, I don’t mean helping you with your recycling. You know those pesky red, orange and green lights courtesy of YOAST! Well I am obsessed with them. I have to have the green!

If you are interested in finding out how I can help you by being that extra pair of eyes and turning all your lights green, contact me by sending me an email – info@bluemediaedit.com or purchase one of the products below.
Editing a post before it goes live is quite technical and includes a number of different elements. Alternatively, I am offering a bundle to edit up to 5 old blog posts.
I also have a training course to teach you all about SEO and how to implement Basic technical SEO for yourself. This is a huge part of blog post editing and I’d urge you to pay attention to it to benefit your blog in the long run.
