In my recent post about the best mostly-free online resources you need for blogging, I mentioned Grammarly as one of the tools to use for writing. Grammarly is the world’s best Grammar Checker. In this post, I’m going to tell you about all the other features included in Grammarly Premium so that you can decide if Grammarly Premium is worth it for bloggers.
If you’ve not heard of Grammarly before, it is an online spelling and grammar checker that helps users to write better. Grammarly is an excellent resource for helping you write better and produce writing to a higher standard. By installing the Grammarly extension on your internet browser, the free version of Grammarly highlights spelling errors and helps you with your punctuation and grammar. That’s the free version. The premium version is so much more.
Grammarly Free vs Grammarly Premium – What more do you get?
The free version of Grammarly checks your spelling, grammar and punctuation. It also offers limited checking of clarity conciseness and tone detection. It’s a great tool if you’re already a professional writer, or you just need a bit of double-checking of the basics.
The Grammarly Premium version offers the following:
Grammarly Premium checks for Correctness
- Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
- Consistency of spelling and punctuation
I have found these really useful, especially the consistency. When I’m writing about things like Search Engine Optimisation, sometimes I accidentally write optimization (which is the US spelling of the word). Grammarly allows you to set which country you want to write for. I am in the UK, so I want to write British English. Not only does Grammarly helps me to make sure I’m using the correct spelling for British English, but it also helps to make sure that I consistently use the same spelling throughout my text. It’s not only a great checker but a great time saver too.
Grammarly Premium checks for Clarity
I have found this useful for ensuring that, even though I want my writing to be relatable and not stuffy or pretentious, it still helps me to make sure I don’t slip into slang terms or use unnecessary words.
Grammarly Premium checks for Engagement
- Compelling Vocabulary
- Lively sentence variety
I’m not going to lie – I haven’t used this function of it. Maybe my writing doesn’t need it, but I can’t comment on my experience of this part of the service. However, I do like to see all the ticks on the Assistant!
Grammarly Premium checks for the Delivery of your words
I love this one!! You can download a free Grammarly Tone Detection extension as well, but with Grammarly Premium, it’s all included in one and offer even more assistance.
- Tone detection (Free)
- Confident language
- Formality Level
- Inclusive Language
Grammarly Tone Detection shows you different icons depending on what type of delivery they deem your paragraph to be delivered.
Grammarly Premium includes a Plagiarism checker
This one is fairly obvious. Grammarly Premium is the best Plagiarism checker out there.

By now you’re asking yourself, is Grammarly Premium worth it for bloggers? Most bloggers like to keep their blow writing fairly informal. That may be so, but I have to say that personally, Yes. I believe that Grammarly Premium is worth it for bloggers. It helps you stay on track, keeps your writing consistent and error-free, and helps guide you with the tone and delivery of your message.
